What was it like to live in Houston during the 1970s oil boom?

watch Urban Cowboy.

It was a town where everyone was making money. Nightclubs were full, dinner required a reservation, and it was party central.

While oil is no longer in the dumps, it's not really in a "boom" in Houston itself. In a "boom", there's lots of white collar office hiring at the oil companies and engineering firms, and that's not really happening.

You can disbelieve all you want, but drive around Baytown and see how many cranes are in the air lifting new towers up at the energy companies. Profits are way up, expansions are in full swing and hiring is brisk! Maybe its just you missing out?

Don't tell the people in Midland/Odessa. They think the boom is back on. All the apartments & hotels are full at outrageous rates and there's a shortage of labor for all kinds of jobs.
