Curious about differences in ratings between Furr HS feeder pattern schools and Galena Park ISD schools (Uvalde: homes)

I am curious about the differences in the Schooldigger ratings between the Furr High School feeder pattern schools and Galena Park ISD schools. If you go on Schooldigger you can see them... Jacinto City's Whittier Elementary of HISD scores lower than Jacinto City Elementary of GPISD.

I wonder why the ratings seem drastically different... It doesn't seem like the GPISD students are much wealthier than the Furr HS ones. Is HISD's magnet system sapping more talented students from the Furr HS schools? Or is there another reason why the GPISD schools perform better?

Furr folks have never stayed at home. Many of them go out the zone or have went to North Shore over the years as its a stones throw to Uvalde from Mercury.

Furr was one of those schools that was built for the wrong reasons. It was built to take advantage of the blue collar folks from Wheatley (Pleasantville) and Jacinto City plus keep Clinton Park at home but they go everywhere else than Furr. They didn't expect Jacinto City to turn heavily hispanic as most of the whites died out or moved down the highway. The blacks just followed.

I'm guessing this also applies to Holland and Whittier, R.P. Harris, etc. Interestingly some of the elementaries have enrollments around 600 or so but their scores aren't as good as the GPISD schools.

Does GPISD accept out of zone students?

not that I know of but they accept in-zone addresses from out of zone students, lol.

I know New York city's school system can go far to check if the child actually lives in the said house, but I dunno how far GPISD checks.

I'm very happy to see this! Thank you so much! I didn't even know these pages existed.

On paper not too many transfer to Galena Park, but I wonder if GPISD's residential checking is robust...

Now, if only we could find building capacities of each high school.

There's a capacity number for each school in the data above. There's some controversy as to how accurate the capacity numbers are, but it's what we have.

* 199 (1,107-908) students in the Furr zone go to other HISD high schools
* 112 students in the Furr zone to go other districts' high schools or charter schools, including 33 to North Shore and 22 to Galena Park HS
* 827 students in the Furr zone are in private schools or homeschooled (estimated)
(I have no idea how many private schools/which private schools would be taking these students, especially since Furr is not in a wealthy area - Would they be Catholic schools?)

* 197 (847-650) students in the Holland zone go to other HISD middle schools
* At least 213 students go to other districts' middle schools or charter schools (total number unknown), including 17 to Cunningham MS and 10 to Galena Park MS

Based on these figures I wonder if Catholic schools are taking in many of the more talented students in the Furr HS/Holland MS zone area? Or (if going by HCBU's statements) the parents answering private school would be lying and using another address on the GPISD side?
