Republicans do have heavy control of education and other affairs at the state level in Texas, something chagrined by urban Democrats.

In addition, Harvey was the worst storm in America's recorded history.

They've been pretty continuously doing flood control projects. The big flaw was where they allowed development.

Harvey was hardly the worst storm in America's history, it may have been the worst flooding of any major city but I think even that is questionable when compared to Katrina and New Orleans. The 1900 hurricane of Galveston killed anywhere from 6K - 12K people and is known as the deadliest storm in US history.

Worst in terms of rainfall and flooding, not casualties. The 1900 storm was bad, but the number of dead was due to a lack of any early warnings at the time. Katrina was bad because the topography of New Orleans makes any flooding worse, since large parts of the city are below sea level.

Yes,
same ones that have made many of our basic freedoms illegal = gambling, drinking alcohol (blue laws), etc.

Businesses can be run however they want,
Government is different, they are supposed to work for us .... not the other way around.
