The demographics show a large proportion of Protestant Christians, but how is the Catholic population (and churches and schools), and how are they treated by the Protestants? Thanks!

Demographics also show a lot of Catholics here:

Predominantly from German and Mexican roots. If you don't believe it, go to a church that has a "food day" where everyone brings something ethnic they are familiar with. There seems to be a Catholic church no less than 3 miles from most people's homes around here. Growing up, the one I attended was extremely integrated as well. You won't be taking heat for your faith like you would in North Texas, trust me.

That map is a couple years ago so I think the Catholic map in Texas pushed a little bit more north.

How are they treated by Protestants? Religiousism had been over for decades, so I have no clue why this question is posed. But considering the large Mexican population and large Texan Catholic population in Houston I think you will have plenty of churches and schools to chose from without getting tomatoes thrown at you.

You didn't attend Texas A&M in the late 90s, did you? I'd say half the people I met were Catholics... some of those Protestant thumpers (mainly from North Texas) were so passively vicious when it came to other people's faith, You'd think they were the majority. I've been told in 2008 things haven't really changed.

yeah, I tend to stay clear of all things Aggie..... or Waco. But since I figured the OP was enquiring about Houston....

Yeah yeah, heard it all before.

But I can understand the OP's concern regarding this, considering what you can experience in so many other parts of this state, including DFW.

As far as the Catholic schools are concerned, Strake Jesuit, St. Thomas, St. Agnes, Duechesne, St. Vincent, etc. are all good schools with reasonable tuition. Try finding a protestant school with a tuition like any of the above.

Catholic schools tend to be lower priced as they are subsidized by the Diocese themselves. I know that SW of Houston, between Houston and Victoria, is probably about 80% Catholic due to the large amount of Czech and Italian immigration to the area.

I'm not that religious myself, but my Irish/Czech roots put a lot of Catholics in my family. They get along just fine. This is not Northern Ireland.
