If you work or live in Downtown Houston, have you been inside the DT Tunnel? I've lived in Houston my whole life and never been inside a Downtown tunnel because I haven't had a reason to go.

I go to the tunnels quite often, even on days I'm not working. There are a lot of different shops available in a small vicinity -it's especially nice for escaping the summer heat. Sometimes it seems like there are more people in the tunnels than there are on the streets.

Try to look like you're at work if you go down there. Anytime I've gone down there with the camera bag and wearing what I normally would for a downtown photo walk, I've been treated by their security/management etc. drones like one of the bums from the surface walked down there, right up to their suggesting that I leave. I tell them I'm going to Whataburger. Which in a lot of cases was the truth. And there is no Whataburger on the street downtown.

Really, it's not that interesting, aside from that atrium where the WB happens to be located

And even then you might find yourself wondering what mall's food court it is.

The rest of it has the look and feel of a maze of really long airport skywalks.

The tunnels themselves, while certainly a handy amenity for nearby workers, aren't anything special for the most part. The best part about them to me is the people-watching (up until about 1:30 pm).

From the video I posted, plus the pics, the tunnel system resembles a shopping mall due to the shops. I can see why they exist because they're for professionals who don't want to go away for lunch, and they serve as relief from the brutal summer months. I'll have to visit a couple tunnels when I get some down time during the week.

Uses them every day when I worked downtown. Really nice to have with all the rain and heat we have in Houston.

Except, unless something changed recently, it's only open on weekdays.

Right. Open weekdays only. And yes, it's a great place if you work downtown, especially in summer because it's air conditioned.
You can grab a quick lunch without wasting time to find parking space or get all sweaty running around in the Summer heat.
Talking about running - lots of people just go for a power walk during lunch time. It's a great break from sitting in an office...
