I would recommend using Griddy during the highest 6 months of usage in your home and find a cheap 6 month contract over the low usage months. The $10 is absorbed over more kWh in the summer and as a percentage of your bill much lower than in the winter. You can easily beat Griddy in low usage months with the right 6 month plan.

You cannot beat Griddy in the summer. If you don’t want to go through the trouble of doing this every winter it’s easiest to stick with Griddy.

Do you have to sign a contract with griddy? Or is it month-to-month? I'm interested - currently get 13.7c from TXU.

No contract.

You pay an initial deposit and usage deducted from this amount. Refill when depleted (like EzTag)

so how did those griddy users do this week? reports on reddit of users who paid $50-$100 for ONE day due to the surge in wholesale pricing during peak hours.

Yes, that's about right. The company is waiving their $10 monthly fee for this month. Small consolation you might think, but when did you ever hear a provider to that?

That all said, i paid 3.6 cents kWh in June and and 4 cents in July. Less than that in the prior months. So, yeah. August won't look pretty but the rest of the year is great.

is this the electricity rate fully loaded with the $9.99 fee, taxes, distribution charges, etc? I am seeing people reporting averages of 9-10 cents fully loaded. The $10 fee per month costs almost 1 cent per kwh so are you saying you are getting electricity supplied for 2.5 cents??

Griddy is ok (I think it's a ripoff), but you need to be prepared for huge price fluctuations in the summer. I know people who were charged .37 cents per kWh earlier this week during the peek. I don't think I can justify that $10 fee during the cooler months.

And the 3.5% credit fee they charge to each time you have to re-load your account.

Griddy was bad this month but Im still ahead for the year. I save around $80 a month typically on griddy whereas this month with the spikes I look to spend an extra $400 so still worth it overall. May change my tune if we have multiple additional weeks of these price spikes.

I am ahead on the year as well, but these last few days have been brutal. Definitely pays to have WiFi thermostats to manage demand during the price spikes.

I couldn’t even fathom having Griddy if you don’t have a smart home.
