Yeah this is what I figured. It’s just kind of crazy how the most “exclusive” airport lounge brand opened at Terminal D when it was a “laughing stock”. I guess when the plans to redo the terminal came to light, they took the opportunity

Spirit Airlines opening new base at IAH bringing 500 jobs with the move

50 based at the new TechOps facility,
150 pilots
300 flight attendants

I’ve wondered why Spirit didn’t do this before since they’ve had a decent presence at IAH for a while.

Also wonder how the long term effects of this will look with the pending JetBlue or Frontier merger

Literally weeks after Spirit announced the new operation base in IAH, it looks like the Spirit-JetBlue merger is a done deal. I wonder how this will affect IAH and other smaller bases that Spirit operates

It’s not a “done deal.” Could take 2 years to clear regulatory hurdles. Makes me wonder if JetBlue did this just to quash the Frontier-Spirit merger which made more sense.

I can provide some insight on that given my job.

We have to first remember why B6 bought NK: they want the routes, the presence, and the fleet. B6 is huge in the Northeast, big in Florida, noticeable on transcons, and tiny everywhere else. To that end, I dont know that B6 is looking for major expansions in NK markets, but rather to slap their name on what NK already has.

Frankly, I think B6 will regret this long term. This merger is going to be a nightmare of an integration. The workforce dont have similar pay scales or cultures. They have different unions which will be at each others throats to represent the whole thing. To top it off, B6 paid a CRAZY inflated price for B6.

There are two winners in this: NK shareholders and Frontier Airlines for getting to sit it out. Everyone else that works for both loses.

You're being WAY too technical. You also left out the "looks like". The facts are that both boards agreed on terms, Frontier pulled out, no other company appears to object, and no major shareholders are against the deal. While mergers can fall out, this is besides the point. As of now, the two companies have made agreements and will now begin working to complete the merger.

The odd things that I notice is Spirit making the investments they have been making while they knew an ongoing merger of some sorts was happening. Not just at IAH but elsewhere as well. The timing was a bit strange. Not sure if it was to add value to the potential merger or what but in the least it's a bit strange.

Boy terminal D gutted out is something! But the Centurion Lounge was fine. Can't wait until the terminal renovations come closer to completion, it's awkward seeing the terminal.
