Atlanta and Charlotte are the best geographically located hubs in the US because they serve the most traffic flows. Even Chicago doesn’t have it as good as those two.

Yes this is what I explained in an earlier post. Certain routes will be more convenient through IAH but overall, ATL geographically as good as it gets.

Default Direct flights out of Houston

I have been flying to Europe every 4-5 weeks on average for the past 2.5 years. Whereas it is not shocking, or surprising really, given COVID-19, it sucks that there are no more direct flights from Houston to Europe. I despise EWR (JFK and LGA for that matter). Every time I have had to go through EWR, almost half the time was always some kind of delay with flights outbound to Houston. I can't count how many times either myself, or my family and I had to spend the night in a hotel (courtesy of United) because of their delays/cancellations.

But oh well, I understand there are more important things to complain about... 'just thought I'd put in my two cents here. I am sure routes will return to "normal" someday.

Yeah. I hear ya. I’m the same but to Asia.

But Houston will have plenty of routes to Europe again when this is over.

Re Lufthansa, yeah, I have used them a few times actually, but I prefer United metal for the perks I get, plus to get where I go, one has to route through Oslo, or Copenhagen with Lufthansa and then connect with SAS. A pain in the ass since I have to collect my luggage at either airport because Bergen does not have a proper customs terminal. I've missed my connection with SAS a few times, but they are really very nice and book me on the next flight because it is never my fault. SAS is stingy though, nothing is free but tea and coffee... you even have to pay for water!

Interestingly, my wife and I decided last year we would switch alliance to KLM since I can check in my luggage directly from IAH to BGO. It is also the most direct rout to Bergen... IAH-AMS-BGO. That is very convenient, plus the entire family likes spending time in Amsterdam/Utrecht.

I flew KLM a bunch in the 90's, between Egypt and Europe and BKK-AMS-IAH. More recently, it was Qatar Air, DOH-IAH and back. United's planes are more comfortable than Lufthansa, one flight to Frankfurt I took the A380, and wished I had taken the UA 777.

Nice product Qatar Airways has. I used to fly to Doha and Oman before they introduced direct flights from Houston. Oman Air used to be the best back in the early 2000's, but then Qatar could not be outdone, so they introduced their service and I found it better... but 'dem Oman Air attendants though! Once they both started to offer direct flights, I tried them, but I just did not like being in an airplane for 14+ hours. I always had our travel center break mine up... using United of course, via FRA. Lately we have been flying KLM and collecting their cool Blue Delft houses... 'supposed to be some good Gin in them, but I've not opened any to try.

Errr, yeah, United is big in Houston.
