MFAH Van Gogh exhibit now open (through June 27th, 2019) (Houston: home, activities)

A lot of Houstonians don't realize how lucky we are to have top-notch museums in our city. Last year we were privileged to view the works of Edgar Degas. This year the MFAH is featuring the works of Vincent van Gogh.

I have to admit I am not that knowledgeable when it comes to art. A couple of years ago I had the opportunity to visit museums in Madrid and that piqued my curiosity to learn more. In particular I was fascinated by the works of Picasso. When I returned home the MFAH was presenting the Degas exhibit. I became a member!

Both the Degas and van Gogh MFAH exhibits received national attention. Here is a recent review by the Washington Post. The comments after the article (not posted) are even more instructive.

I'm excited by this exhibit, and all the attendant lectures and activities that the MFAH has set up to coincide with it. I've been down there a couple of times this week and the line has been out the door. That's awesome, although curmudgeon that I am, I'm going to wait a while to see if the lines go down a little bit.

Yes I went today and the lines were quite long. I waited 20 minutes outside and another 10 inside before finally entering the exhibit. It was jam packed! And while I did enjoy it I will have to return when the buzz dies down. I'm sure I missed some of the smaller exhibits. Van Gogh's story is fascinating.

We went right after it opened today, and it was still very crowded. The exhibit is well worth seeing. Like the poster above, I plan to go back in a month or two after the crowds die down.

It is interesting to see how drastically his art changed over the years.

The crowds have probably died down now.
