Another Saturday Morning Coffeee Pondering

The Westside HS, Westbriar Middle and Barbara Bush Elem are realling coming into there own reputation wise. Becoming as desired as Briargrove Elem. and Lamar HS. Articles are being published about the re-awakening of Ashford Forest, and people are actually seeking the zoning for place to buy.

Yes, there're low income apartments out that way that've seen some trouble, but the violent crimes are low compared to other "ghetto" neighborhoods. I think everyone in inner Houston can find low-income apartments within a mile of them, wherever they live. These seem to be mostly good people in bad situations. Katrina thugs have mostly moved on and farther SW, where they feel more at home.

This might be the next great affordable neighborhood that will increase in value. Homes can still be purchased below 200k, yet some areas are cruising close to 400k.

Opinions.

I work over on the BMC campus and lunch in that area often. I drove through that area the other day and was surprised at how run down and scary it has become. The area around Dairy Ashford looks like a dumpy ghetto. It gets a little better once you cross the bayou, but nothing spectacular.

DA has always been dumpy. When you get into the single family neighborhoods though, its nice and still affordable on the south side of the bayou. I'm thinking the schools are what will pull it through.

There's been a lot of talk about the "ghetto." Poor people have to live somewhere right? I'm pretty sure those low-income apartments have been there for decades and have never affected the values or safety of the neighborhoods. Certainly not those on the north side of the bayou. Kirkwood has gone through a bit of a clean up lately. Probably Wilcrest is next, I think that's the worst of the whole area.
