I’m American with Cuban roots so it’s just like growing up in Texas and moving to Miami -culture shock lol!! Many other races such as Mexicans speak Spanish, the cultures are very different. We are going to visit soon so I’m just looking for recommendations to check out. I’m really excited!

I’ve heard of “Caribbean Spanish” (originating from the Canary Islands)
Never heard of “Cuban language”

BTW, Mexican is not a race

How different?
I guess Cuban culture is more into vintage cars and cigars. But what else?

It will be extremely difficult to find another Cuban community like those in Miami.
If you come to Houston, expect to have to blend in and relate to other nationalities (other Latinos may share a language but culturally and economically vary). Houston is dominated by Mexicans and Central Americans and although other Latin American countries are here, they don’t dominate as much as Mexicans/Central Americans. You really don’t want to live in Alief or Gulfton as someone mentioned. The only exception to that is the gated community of Royal Oaks-which has a Country Club.

My Nextdoor app shows Venezuelan groups of over 50 people in Katy area, but in contrast, the Cuban Group is only 4 people. Whether that is reflective of the low numbers of Cubans in the area, I am not sure. But know it’s nothing like Miami. If you come to Texas, you will be blending in with everyone else.

Good luck with the job search. You will want to line up a job first. It will dictate where you can reasonably live. Longer commutes here.

The closest you’ll probably get to a Cuban area is Northside Village. It’s a combo of Hispanics, Mexicans and some Cubans in there, with a rising black population. One thing about Houston is we’re not as segregated by race as some other cities.

Northside Village is a heavy Tejano/Mexican neighborhood. I'd say behind the East End, but gentrification has changed that completely there. I dont think anyone would remotely associate that part of town with even a slight Cuban flavor.

Nowhere is going to as Cuban as Miami, not even close. However, if you’re willing to commingle with other Latinos then Houston will be great for you as it’s a major international city (mostly Mexican and Central/South American rather than PR/DR/Cuba).

Miami is like that too, except that the dominant Latin culture is Cuban
In Houston, it’s Mexicans

There’s more Venezuelans in Miami than in Houston

There is no Miami Cuban feel at all in Houston or anywhere else in Texas. Even though Houston is home to the biggest Cuban population West of the Mississippi.
