I'm moving to Houston June 1st for a job. I currently live in Tampa, FL and am originally from Omaha, NE. I'll be traveling in the greater Houston area. I went there about a month ago looking and wasn't very impressed with what I saw. I'm 24, single, don't know anyone in town and just starting my career. I really liked the Lofts at the Ballpark, but not sure how close it was to the nightlife. The one complex I saw in midtown was very unimpressive, but think I'd like to check midtown out a little more. I'm trying to stay under $1100 a month and I need to sign a lease in the next couple weeks. Probably won't be in Houston long term, but probably at least a year. Where should I look? I like a more Urban feel.

I was right across the street from the ball park last night and we had a great time.

Guess which one flashed!

Sorry Husker, I was answering Beto as to the location of Kirby Lofts. Just do a Google search using "kirby lofts" and you'll get more info than you can use on that place.

I can't help you much as far as where to move. I would not consider buying ANYPLACE, Houston or wherever, if I only intended to stay there "probably at least a year" as you said.

To get to the nightlife, you'll probably need a car despite where you live. Houston is not like New Orleans with its French Quarter, or even Austin and 6th Street. "Nightlife" is scattered throughout the 600 plus square miles of this city. You'll get used to driving to it, wherever the places you come to like are to be found.

Hopefully, some of the younger readers here can help you out more. I quickly got used to the driving to all those (nightlife) places I came to like and it's just not a problem. You just get in your car and go.

If you only intend to be here for a year or so I think your best bet is to rent and find a nice place to live. THEN, just drive wherever, at night.

The downside to the Kirby Lofts at Main is that the building has no parking.

Being young, you might like it west of downtown near Montrose or Shepard inside the west loop.
