I live in Galveston County but I’d take Fulshear area over Conroe. No shade on Conroe but personally, I’ve never been able to warm up to the Northside, no matter if it’s Spring, Woodlands, Conroe, or Magnolia.

Anyone know anything about that little Christmas Theme park planned for Conroe? They keep calling it Conroe, but it seems to be passed New Waverly.

It's been planned forever but supposed to open next year. I think it is supposed to be called Christmas Village.

Don't know much about it but it seems like a long way to take the kids for pics with Santa. It's closer to Huntsville, but I don't think they want the association with the prison so they are clinging to the Conroe name instead

How prone is Conroe to flooding during Hurricanes? My mom was looking to move out that way.

North enough to where the storm subsides significantly. But South enough to where you may have to "whether out" a storm. It will be rare for a storm to pass Conroe as a hurricane but you'll eventually have to sit through a tropical storm. Conroe doesn't flood in the sense that major roads will all be closed for hours as is the case in Houston. But you still should look at a house's history before buying. You should actually do that any place on Earth but definitely in the GH area in checking for flood history

What brings your mom to Conroe?

It's a long and personal story, short story is things aren't going well for her in Atlanta.

Conroe has a low occurrence of flooding.

If you are asking if Conroe is like those images you saw on TV of Houston during Harvey then no it is not.

There are properties with a chance of flooding so you do need to make sure the property is not in a flood plain.

The topography of Conroe is gently rolling. I don't think you would call it hills, but it is not completely flat like closer to the coast.

As with anywhere, if you buy a house in a low spot you run the risk of water getting in the house during a major storm. But it worth it for some to live near a lake.

But short answer is no. Less than 10% of homes in Conroe are prone to flooding. That amounts to a low probability of flooding.

Conroe is in a prettier location than most of Houston. Less cookie cutter too. It still has some small town feel, despite being in a major metro. It is close to a state park, but also close to all the amenities in The Woodlands and Houston further on.

Traffic on 45 is a beast though. People from Conroe are always complaining about the commute so that is something to keep in mind if she will be working in Houston.

I just saw Conroe today, I have been there before in the past but not to go house looking. I have to admit I really liked it. My family saw a few homes there that they are interested in buying. The overall feel of Conroe reminded me alot of suburban / exhurban Atlanta just with alot less hills. We wanted to visit Katy too but didn't have enough time. I think they will end up going with Conroe though, they fell in love with it.

I could potentially see myself settling in Conroe. I plan on coming back to Texas in March.

One reason I would love to move to the Conroe/Woodlands area is that I love trees, but I always joke with friends that "I love trees, just not near my house".
