I bought a new 2019 Honda back in late 2019 and just noticed that I did not get an inspection sticker of any sort. I think that new cars are free from inspection for 2 years but thought there would be an inspection sticker showing when expiration date comes up. I just had online chat with somebody at dealership and and was told to contact their sales department on MONDAY. Meanwhile, can somebody tell me if there is a logical explanation for that or did the dealer just forget to place sticker? Thanks.

It's not an inspection sticker any longer, it's the license plate expiration date. You chae to get the car inspected to get it licensed now, but the car inspection place does not give you a sticker like they did before the Legislature decided that car inspections were more important than things like funding school appropriately..

Di you get the license plates?

I have had the plates since late 2019 or early 2020. Got those within a few weeks after getting the car. I got the car title (paid cash) within a month. It just never crossed my mind that I did not have any sort of sticker until today so concerned me about getting pulled over for no sticker. State should notify me by mail in time to renew license. So, I'm covered right?

The plates usually get sent to the dealer along with your sticker. Although, I’m not quite up to speed with the new system here since they went with the new system. Chances are, you’ll at least get a warning if not a ticket depending on how much of a jerk the officer is. Dealerships here seem uninterested in making sure you have everything you need after the sale. The separate windshield sticker/inspection process is a bit of a bugaboo, IMHO. It’s one of the few things California did better.
