I just laughed at your post... not you, but it just goes to show what I am saying happens, but people are so used to it like a frog being boiled alive in water. We all get used to it, numb to it, finally we just ignore it. This is insane, and unless people wake up, the sky is the limit. Look at the trajectory, and you can see when this becomes unsustainable... then what? A state income tax!

County appraisers by law are supposed to put a value on the home that reflects the market value. If your neighborhood home values are getting more expensive, then your a.v. will go up. Now, if you have reason to think they have overvalued your home relative to the market, then, by all means, protest. But it sounds to me like your beef is with the taxing jurisdictions (ISD, City, County etc.) more so than with the appraisal district. If so, then you need to speak up when tax rates are being proposed each year in the autumn.

You shouldn't have to pay anything unless they lower the appraisal. At least that's how the service i use works. If they lower the amount of what i would owe by X dollars, i pay the service half that amount. I don't use the service selectively -- i have them protest every single year. And why not, it doesn't "cost" me anything. But as has been said, it's a pity that such services need to exist in the first place.
