My wife and I are moving from LA (CA) to Houston,

We've been priced out of California. You can't get a house in LA in our budget. We found jobs in the Texas Medical Center and at the University of Houston, and want to get a house in the area. From our research it looks like $650k can get us a nice place in Houston.

So in short we're looking for a quiet leafy suburban area with nice single family homes and big backyards. Lots of families, children, and good schools. We want all this, with a Hispanic (preferably Mexican) majority. Greater Houston is plurality Hispanic so that shouldn't be too hard.

In our early 30s. Not interested in nightlife or the craziness of the city. Quiet, comfortable, safe, walk down the street at 3am with no worries. Our kids are 14 months and 3 years old. Both our families are Mexican, we're native Spanish speakers, and we'd feel really comfortable in a community where most people are Hispanic. No offense to other races.

Others please correct me if I'm off-base, but the majority Latino neighborhoods are generally going to be on the working class, lower income side and not have the greatest schools.

The quiet suburbs with top-notch schools (e.g. Katy, Sugar Land, Woodlands) will have diversity though a lesser amount of Latinos (albeit I imagine still a significant amount). Maybe Pearland?? Spring Branch??

I won't say anything further as I don't want what I say to be misconstrued, but take a look at this and overlay it with Google maps: https://www.houstontx.gov/planning/D.../Ethnicity.pdf

Welcome!

Are y'all Mexican from MX or Mexican-American? Houston has tons of Mexicanos so you're in the right place.

Fort Bend (Sugar Land/Missouri City/Richmond-Rosenberg has a strong Mexican-American presence while a place like Katy has lots of Latinos from South America (Venezuelans, Colombians) but also lots of Mexicans as well.

If you want primarily Mexican/Mexican-American I would suggest Spring Branch or CyFair area. Best of luck! I'm Cuban-American so I'm not much help jajaja!

Your budget will get a lot of house in the suburbs. There's lots of us in the supposedly homogenous suburbs, too. Almost 1/5 Hispanic where I live in north Galveston County close to the space center. It's like that all around the metro. Pasadena Tx, not Ca, is majority Hispanic, too.

Also the Woodlands is mostly upscale and is known for having a large population of Mexican nationals with a second home.

Lindale Park (77009) and Idylwood (77023) are some gorgeous close-in neighborhoods. When I lived in Lindale Park the schools were almost all Hispanic but many of the more affluent Hispanic families sent their youngsters to magnet schools or private schools.

I am not sure what to recommend in terms of a suburban neighborhood that fits all of your criteria! Good luck!

but like some have said there's a clear divide between everyday working-class Hispanic and the affluent one with light skin that can pass for caucasian as there are plenty of working class communities in Huston as the affluent ones are mixed in elsewhere. Who do you compare yourself to?

Houston is extremely diverse. Actually suburban Houston, Fort Bend county is the most diverse county in America. This link is a little old but I'm sure it still holds true.

https://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/24/u...fort-bend.html

Unlike LA, these diverse areas are not very segregated at all.

North Katy is at a minimum plurality Hispanic / Latino in most areas. That group is an actual majority in many parts of North Katy.
