So my wife and I are having a home built in willis Texas and we need to rent a house there for 3-4 months. So after calling around i'm getting told rental companies only rent for a year. What can we do ? anyone know of any rental companies that rent short term? Or anybody got their upstairs open???

Look for a direct landlord and offer a higher level rent for short-term housing.

You can also look into corporate housing but it's much more expensive. Here's an example. So $90/nt would run ~$2700/mo.

You might also try airBNB.

It's going to be hard to find a short term rental through conventional (HAR) avenues in this market. AirBNB will be your best bet. I'm sure some of them will be happy to have a 3 month renter.

I checked into that today........your probably right. My only other option is 3 months in my 22" travel trailer.

A travel trailer that's less than 2 feet long? That sounds like torture!

How about a long term RV rental? 3 months is doable and also gives you some flexibility to explore the area.

There are some fairly large ones available and rental rates are competitive, with the added bonus you can change scenery at will and “live” in the woods.

I stayed in a nicely converted Airstream for a few nights in the heat of July/August heat, and found it quite comfortable. A/C worked great.

You can also try craigslist. Seems cheaper than airbnb a lot of times

Keep in mind that an MLS-listed rental property typically has the landlord paying a total of one month's rent to both agents as commission. Few if any landlords would give up one month of rental income for a three- or four-month lease, so 1 year minimum is typical.

Additionally - most rental homes in single-family residential areas are marketed to families, who typically move during the summer to get kids in school for the fall. These landlords will make every effort to avoid having a property become vacant during the fall, because it may be a long time before they can get it leased again.

Travel trailer might not be a bad idea .

Look for extended stay hotels. We stayed at one for few months while our place was getting ready. Yes, more expensive, but your options are limited.....also back when I was in college, I used to rent apartments in Houston when I worked during summer - they did 3 month leases at higher price. Call some apartment complexes or I am sure there is some website to check on that.
