As an outsider I'm interested in Houston, but not sure why so much cheaper? It there a red flag here? Why is Dallas higher is that because it is better place? Houston has so many companies and is a great metropolitan city with great facilities, so it doesn't make sense to me

someone told me 'zoning'? What does that even mean, could someone please help explain to me? I've heard the word. Do they permit things for housing vs Dallas? Thank you

If your strictly going by some kind of price index Tokyo is the best city in the world. The difference in consumer price index between Houston and Dallas is minute (adj).

Housing prices in Houston are appreciating at a very healthy rate.

You're seeing a discount due to less desirability (higher humidity, more susceptible to hurricanes, more flooding, etc.) The market reducing costs to offset negatives and balance things out.

Dallas is the most pretentious place in Texas. It's no wonder that Neiman Marcus was founded there.

Despite the lower salaries/wages, middle-class folks (and higher) have the Keeping up with the Jonses' mindset, showing off with stylish clothes, cars, houses, etc. The $30,000 "millionaire" was coined there! That kind of lifestyle feeds inflation--on top of the 5% price increases nationwide so far this year.

I’ll put it this way: Dallas is business-minded & image conscious & it reflects in housing prices. Houston is more laid-back, there’s no aura of fakeness here.

DFW just caught up with Houston recently. But don't let that stop your rant.

It took so long because transplants kept the same salary that they were paid on the coasts. The corporate relocatees won't do the same for any Texas-based hires; similar to pensions with new employees.

Houston is only a little bit cheaper than Dallas. Cost of living is getting too high now in all the large metro areas in TX. One of the high reasons for the high cost of living in the Dallas area is because of the huge influx of wealthy foreigners from India and China.
