Issue is that people put these illegal "LED" or "HID" bulbs into housings that are not designed for them. DOT regulates headlights and if you alter them with those bulbs you're already technically illegal. Police only cares that you got lights on. Our safety inspections in TX are a joke, so unless you improve this, people will put crap into their vehicles. Properly designed LED headlights, while brighter, will not blind the oncoming cars. Look at high end cars with LED headlights.

Default Window tinting...

Also, window tinting so dark you cannot see who's in the vehicle at noon with full sun. That is also illegal, but seems to go on without consequence. Don't know about everyone else, but I don't get any good vibes when next to someone like that in traffic... it's like what are they hiding from? Anyway, I do recall that it used to be enforced many years ago, I guess they have better things to do!

But back to the lights, anyone remember the craze when guys were putting blue tinted lights on their vehicles? I think they still will pull you over for that, but we have guys still living that decade because I see them from time to time. I guess they were trying to emulate the then new LEDs which did have a slight bluish tinge to it. I actually saw a car with lights that had a green tint to it recently... a new craze?

I've never understood the lack of enforcement of illegal window tint. It seems so easy. There are small, inexpensive tools that quickly display the tint percentage. LEO use them to determine if the tint is illegal or not. Why don't the inspection stations do it? It should be a requirement to pass inspection.

For me, it's a safety feature. Being able to see the other driver in certain situations--does he see me, is he looking at the road, etc.

Never understood the lack of enforcement...

Ha, I actually thought limo window tint was legal in Texas until I looked it up a few weeks ago. It's never enforced in Houston for sure. I'm curious about other parts of Texas - I assume there's some places where overzealous cops will pull you over for it.

As far as the lights go, I've seen some truly crazy stuff here. The other day I was in front of a person with circular, pulsating, rainbow headlights (during the day!). I have no idea how that's legal or if its not, how that person doesn't get pulled over daily.

Ever ridden in a car with limo tint all around? It really helps your AC blow ice cold in the summer heat. Perhaps people are doing sinister things behind it but I never really gave it much thought. My cars are barely legal in the front and darker in the rear for that reason.

As far as the lights some people have, we did goofy crap like that here in the mid 90s too. Nowadays with cheap LED technology the possibilities are endless.

I can't see very well with dark tint at night - I bet you most people can't either. Kinda like wearing sunglasses at night.
