Hello All, I will be in Houston for few months only from November to February. What is a good area to rent in Houston for temporary purposes which is close to night life or where i can make friends around my age which appeals to young single folks and is also a safe area to live. I am not looking to sign up any lease for long term as Houston is not going to be my home but I will be coming for few months for next few years at least so would love to find a place based on the details i mentioned and would love your recommendations.

I don't even mind a roommate if i can save money. I heard Houston is very cheap to rent for a single person. Can I find something decent, may be Airbnbs or private rooms around 600 bucks monthly?

Also if you have any suggestions on areas to avoid for safety, I will appreciate any of your suggestions related to that.

Maybe check the Heights area for short-term rentals, Air BnB, or roommates.

I would recommend using the HAR app. It's an app that allows you to search homes for sale or rentals in the Houston metro area. You can adjust your search according to your needs. I don't think 600 is going to work in any area with nightlife--it barely works for anything in the whole metro area. It's going to be 800 minimum for a small studio. I would recommend searching for a studio apartment in Montrose, Midtown, the Museum District, West University or the Heights. Those are the younger areas with more nightlife, though the Heights skews a bit older.

Maybe sleep in someone's garage studio in the areas mentioned is probably your best bet.

Here are the things going against you:

your budget constrained
you want to live in a part of town with action
you are short term

Need to get creative. Are there not apps or message boards where people are looking for short term room mates?

I was trying to save extra but can surely go up in my budget. May be I assumed Houston to be too cheap which was wrong.

I am fine to pay uptill 800-1000 too. I was just seeing what were my chances after I noticed few posts in airbnb with rooms showing for 600 bucks per month, so got excited to see it cheap. I have never paid that less anywhere in USA for a month. Hence.

Thanks for the recommendations. I will look into those areas and get bwck here id I have any other questions.

Yeah as mentioned in my last post, I am not constrained by budget. Was just looking for the cheapest place to stay for a month as I assumed Houston to be too cheap which isn’t the case.

I am okay with paying the price closer to 800-1000 too for a small studio as i will be there just for a few months. Thanks

Is your trip work or pleasure? If you’re coming for work, ask your employer for housing info. If you’re coming for pleasure then ask your friends/acquaintances for info. It’s been awhile since I rented but I paid $800 for my one bedroom and that was 20 years ago.

The short-term aspect is tricky. Nobody wants to mess with a 3 month deal. Maybe you can Airbnb/vrbo or look into extended stay hotels. Downtown, Midtown, Uptown, galleria, montrose are fun, active, stylish parts of town.

It is work only. Yes, looking into Airbnbs now. Getting a lot of them around 700-800 private rooms. That is all I need for such short stay. Looking good
