I'm sure you can replace Trendmaker/Tri-Pointe and insert literally any builder's name. If you ask enough people, you'll find someone who has major problems with literally every tract-home builder. I had a Perry home, it was great. Neighbors also had a Perry, but it had plumbing and foundation issues within 5 years. I know someone who had a Taylor Woodrow (now Taylor Morrison) with major mold issues. None of their neighbors had that issue. I also know a family that had mold issues with a David Weekley home. Point being: it doesn't matter who the builder is.

I agree Jtxg.

Appears to be an attorney funded sensationalized shakedown from Wayne and who ever will pay him. Poltergeist, really?

Not saying the homeowner didn’t have a problem with the home, just too much hype which makes you question the credibility.

IMO Tri Pointe / Trendmaker should have bought this house back before it got to this point.

Before it got to a shakedown? You are seeing one side of a sensational production. My guess is it is not as one sided as it seems. When my car breaks down they should buy it back I guess?

A long standing builder doesn’t let it get to this point unless there another side of the story. You can’t buy back every house that has a warranty item you will not be in business. You certainly can’t cave to hype and social pressure that is one sided. Again not saying these buyers didn’t have an issue but buying a house back when clearly the builder was trying to fix it based on the repair photos is over the top. But that is the entitled world many we live in.

Ive sen this type of mold issue a few times out here in the Western Suburbs. One 'reputable' builder (not Tri-Pointe) recently had to buy back several 500K+ homes in a large area MPC due to mold issues caused by this very problem. I'm checking HAR weekly to see when they'll relist the homes after (hopefully!) fixing them.

The biggest red flag to me was the male attorneys quote when he claimed houses were built in 30-40 days. If you have had a friend that built a house, yourself built a house, your cousin, watched one, you know houses don’t get built in 30days especially giant houses like this one. Again ambulance chasing attorney paying Wayne because he didn’t like the results he is getting.

Shakedown? How about this builder delivered a defective product. Costs way less to buy back and remedy than deal with litigation, bad PR, Realtors, neighbors and everyone else discussing the issues. This house just cost them at least 25X more than what it would have cost to buy it back and remedy / re sale.

So yeah buying it back makes sense.

Also don’t get Trendmaker & Tri Point confused. Trendmaker doesn’t exist anymore (private company). Tri Point is a national corporation. I think Trendmaker would have handled this differently. This was handled just like a corporate builder would handle IMO.

I don't think most builders care two cents what a Realtor thinks - and (not coincidentally) I think most Realtors will go where the paycheck is. To this note, a very large national home builder at a development in Richmond announced they were not going to be compensating Realtors. They still had a waiting list after this announcement. This was in the Spring of this year, I can't tell you if that policy is still holding.

Also, Trendmaker has been under the Tri-Pointe umbrella since 2014, so it's not anything new. They recently took on the name, but if you bought a house in 2014 that was "Trendmaker", it was still a subsidiary of TPG.
