Greetings All,

I am in the need of new insulation in my 30 year old home. I have gotten quotes from different vendors selling either fiberglass or cellulose. This price difference isn't huge. I've done my research online and both have their pros/cons.

I am interested in hearing from fellow Houstonians take on the two types of insulation. Which one do you prefer? I am leaning towards cellulose due to some pros but not sure if cellulose can withstand Houston summers.

Any feedback much appreciated.

Wood is cellulose. It definitely can withstand Houston summers. I have cellulose insulation in the attic, don't have any complaints. Had cellulose in a previous house as well. For the future I would still prefer cellulose. Fiberglass is rigid, abrasive and quite nasty if you happen to touch it.

Fiberglass. Cellulose breaks down over time into nasty dust that gets into everything if you have to do any work in the attic. I'm speaking from experience here.

Ha! There is no clear answer to this question. I've posted this similar question in other home improvement forums and get the same responses. FiberGlass is the best! Cellulose is the best! I guess I will flip a coin.
