Thru CNG,I signed up for Homeserve insurance for my water heater, after 16 years,it conked out so HOMESERVE gave me a new replacement and I cancelled my policy.
Last week Its pilot light died and I have to call a plumber ,first I called CNG and the guy failed to lite the pilot light so he said call a plumber.
The plumber is familiar with this company and told me they gave me a model which was discontinued the same year 2020 .nd he replaced the thermocouple and the control box,$375
I dont know the reason why the model was discontinued, but if the last heater lasted 16 years, why is this new one failed in 1 1/2 years?
He said they dont make things like the old days??
Just you know.

You got lucky with the one that lasted 16 years. Few are rated for that long. You got unlucky with the one that lasted less than 2 years. Failures are not consistent. One might fail in a year and one might fail in 20 years. I agree that many things are made with shorter life expectancies but also remember that a home warranty is going to repair or replace as cheaply as possible. Their focus is on immediate cost not long term value.
