I have prepared my will and now the hard part. To get is notarized with 2 witnesses. The problem is I cannot use anyone in my family, which means I don't have anyone as a witness. What can I do about this situation?

I called one Notary service and they told me they are going to charge $100 for will signing and then $50 per witness. That is crazy amount!

Any recommendations?

Check with a bail bonds place. They have notaries, and probably have witnesses as well. Or, pay a lawyer to review the will, and he can provide the witnesses and the notary. Anyone who prepares their own will needs to have an attorney check it for completeness and to make sure you didn't make any major mistakes. Especially in Texas, where there are some things that can bite your heirs if not done properly.

My understanding is you can use two independent witnesses who will not benefit from the will. Would everyone in your family benefit if you died? Maybe there are some family members who wouldn't benefit who could be your witnesses (cousins, nieces/nephews?). Do you have any neighbors you're friends with that can be your witnesses? Co-workers?

We're in the process of having ours done now too, and the lawyer we're using is also a notary so he'll handle that part and we'll get a couple of close neighbors to be our witnesses.

Try your bank. And I did a traveling notary a while back and I think it was $35.
