I read on different news sources that the new section of the Grand Parkway was open and was going to "be free until midnight Saturday 21st"
I decided to take my son to drive on it and practice driving on the highway

Now I check my EZtag account and I was charge about $12 for driving that section of toll road.
Did anybody else drive on it on Saturday 21st?

It was closed for most of the morning hours, because several approvals needed to happen before crews gradually opened the highway. Officials told us, the new stretch of pavement should open to drivers before the day ended. Once open, folks can use it for free until the tolls begin at midnight on Saturday, May 21.

Motorists can drive for free on the Grand Parkway until the tolls begin at midnight on Saturday 5/21/22.

The Grand Parkway/99 corridor from Hwy. 59 in New Caney to SH 146 in Baytown opens on Thursday, May 19. Motorists can drive for free on the Grand Parkway until the tolls begin at midnight on Saturday, May 21

I posted this in the wrong place, can somebody please move it to the Houston forum?

This is why things like insurance policies begin and expire at 12:01 a.m., so that there's no ambiguity. If you drove on May 21, that was after midnight. Noon is neither a.m. (before noon) or p.m. (after noon), it's right at noon. Midnight is equally before and after, so neither label fits. The day is considered to change at midnight (that's when New Year's Day starts), so I would always assume "midnight" means morning, not night, the beginning of the day, not the end.

No. Date changes at midnight (one second after midnight). Midnight doesn't mean morning. New day begins at midnight.

OP - what is the time stamp on the invoice? At what time, exactly, you used the Parkway?

Seems pretty clear to me. They start charging on the 21st. From your title it states you drove on the tollway on the 21st.

Take the L from your misunderstanding and learn from it.
