I don't understand your post. What does this have to do with getting from Dallas to Crystal Beach ? Just stay on 45 into Galveston follow 87 (Broadway to Ferry Rd) to the Boliver Ferry The Ferry will take you to the Boliver Penninsula then you are basically at Crystal Beach.

Google maps recommends 45 to 99 to I-10, then east to Winnie, then 124 south to 87. That seems to make good sense.

The OP may be looking at the alternate route that avoids the sometimes hours long wait at the ferry by taking I-10 to Anahuac, then down to High Island, then down 87 to Crystal Beach.

The proposed route should not pose any problems.

OP's route is generally faster than what you describe because it allows you to bypass Houston traffic while also avoiding the ferry (can be slow at times). To answer the original question, I'd go with 99 over BW8... 45 traffic south of TW is infuriating and one of the more dangerous stretches of highway in the state.

Thanks and yes, avoiding the ferry and Houston Traffic. Its a yearly trip. Last year I did the tollway to I-10 and it was great. I-10 was a beast though

A 45 minute waite for the Ferry is bound to be faster than traveling around the Bay to Anahuac or Winnie. Get there early.

I had a luck few times getting to Crystal Beach by ferry pretty fast. But not recently. Last two times I hated it. Would prefer I-10/87 bypass route to be on a safe side.
