Wow, how did I guess correct?
You can be married with kids and be a minimalist.

Rates seem to have dropped significantly from when I had originally signed up - just cancelled my previous service at 15.2c kWh and signed up for 12.6c kwH on a 3 month term, hopefully in 3 months rates will be lower

I’m still learning about this, but seems like we need to track “Henry Hub gas price”

It’s the same when both spouses are on same page. Having a kid is a choice.

Dusting off this thread...I just renewed on a fixed-rate 3-year plan at 11 cents/kWH (for 2000 kWH usage), which is <10% premium over my current plan. Prices have been trending down for the last ~4 months at least - anyone who renewed last year at 15 cents/kWH+ should consider paying the cancelation fee and switching to a lower-rate offering soon, as prices are likely to start rising again as we approach the summer months.

I did a 2 year contract last year with Frontier Utilities at 12.9 kWh after 1,000kwh per month. Average bill is $200 a month.

Keep it?

You'd have to run the numbers on canceling and paying the fee vs switching - but 12.9 cents isn't that bad. 15-20 cents would likely justify a switch, depending on contract term, cancelation fee, etc.

Someone needs to develop an online calculator that lets you determine if switching, and paying the cancelation fee, makes financial sense.

Somebody needs to get rid of this BS deregulation that gave us 100 billing companies for electricity that comes from 1 company
