As previously mentioned, the insurance company required an interior inspection. The manufacturing date is on the serial number sticker. Thinking maybe it sat in a warehouse a long time before installation, we checked my dad's files. It was installed just two months after it was manufactured.

I've never had an insurance company require an interior inspection, either. What insurance company?

Swyfft. My agent said this was first for him with Swyfft. And Swyfft indicated they only do the interior inspections for older houses.

It wasn't until around 15 years ago that exterior inspections became the norm. Maybe interior inspections will become commonplace. I hope not.

Happened to me several years ago. Insurance company said they would not renew my policy unless I replaced one of the water heaters due to age. So I did, and they rewarded my cooperation by renewing my policy with a 20% rate increase.
