We were just talking about that. Seems like we used to start school after Labor Day and got out last week of May. Of course this was 30years ago in HISD but I seem to remember we had almost 3 full months of summer. I’m not opposed to it though. Lots of two working parent households. It’s either School, daycare, video games or getting underfoot or into trouble.

Tell me about it. School used to start later even here, seems to have moved up a week or so post COVID. Then they have mandatory orientation days in late July, making it more challenging to plan any family travel.

Only times available to travel are really crowded and expensive. That is quite frustrating, for families that like to travel.

I am so glad I did not attend school in Houston. Reason being summer hot/humid climate.

Our kids are in CFISD and got out May 25th and start the 28th of August. Seems like the longest summer they’ve had in a few years.

I haven't seen a Labor Day Start since 1985 - closest we got to Labor Day was starting the Monday before when I graduated in the 1990s but in high school we started as early as mid-August and as late as the last Monday on the month

it was always told to us about total days

I always considered the 3rd week of August to be the normal start date. That's what it was when I was a kid in the 70s-early 80s.

Hurricane Alicia in 1983 messed up the start of school, 3rd week of August.
