I will be moving to Houston from Michigan soon and need advice. I will be working on San Felipe near Galleria and need to find a SAFE apartment for myself and my elderly mother. We need a fully loaded 2/bed-2/bth w/ washer/dryer, etc. I would prefer to have a view of a lake or pond or at least be near a safe park for my mom to walk at.
I have been looking in the Westchase / W Houston area but nothing seems really safe. Any advice would be appreciated.

There are some nice, newer apartments on TC Jester near Timbergrove neighborhood that are adjacent to the hike /bike trails along White Oak Bayou and the neighborhood is pretty safe (upper mid-class families). Shopping is also nearby and walkable depending on which set of apartments. Location is also convenient to your work location.

What's your price range? You may want to look at Townhouse leases in 77057.

HAR.COM is a good source for that.

Thank you so much for your advice. Do you have a zip code for this area so I can search apartments?

Default My price range

My price range is nothing more than $1500/mth - preferrably around $1200 if possible but I would pay to be safe. I read apartment reviews and I am terrified - rapes and murders and gun shots?? Safety is my primary concern right now with an elderly parent with me.

1500 you can afford a very nice townhouse on Bering or Augusta. It's wedged in by Tanglewood and Briargrove near work. Very safe and the neighborhoods are great to walk.

This area is nice as well. Back behind Second Baptist, a short walk to Whole Foods and lots of retail.

Frankly, 77057 north of San Felipe is far safer than Westchase, not to mention closer to your work and a good mix of age groups so your parent can make friends as well. The YMCA at 1331 Augusta has a huge group of elderly that work out together.

If you really want the apartment route, you may want to look into The Deerwood. I don't know their rates, but i

It's extremely safe and on Woodway and Bering. Tanglewood Park across the street, two restaurants nextdoor and the greatest little drug store as well, Tanglewood Pharmacy. Block Buster, Walgreens, hair and nail salon, retirement home and fun shops a very easy walk as well.

I totally agree with EA! Hudson Oaks is nice too, just a short stretch down Memorial (which splits at San Felipe).
