I have done a pre-drywall inspection of my currently being built House in Katy. My inspector gave a report that stated fire place (gas one) surface should not be touching the combustible wood (as shown in picture1) and the builder made few amendments by cutting the wood on the side as shown in the picture2C. When we sent to the Inspector this picture he mentioned that fireplace should not be in contact with wood. The construction manager insists its not possible to build fire place without attaching to the side and bottom and the stone would come on top of the wood. I am wondering if the construction team is doing the right job. I understand in Houston Fire place is not used as much but in future if used in an extreme scenario should not be a safety hazard. Thanks in advance for your suggestions
