I've been thinking about moving to Alvin,Tx, and was wondering if anyone has more detailed information regarding weather, surrounding area, job market and a good place to live.

You're kidding right? Move a little closer to Houston if you're looking for a good job market, social life and activities.

Weather is hot here especially in summer. Trouble with Alvin is in a hard spot to get to Houston to go anywhere. There is not alot in Alvin to do either,,,,not sure about job market but I guess you probably would be working in houston. Pearland is a nice community if you want to live outside houston but only minutes to medical center and shopping. On northside,,,woodlands is nice place to live also.

Hot (especially during the summer. From early July to early September, you can count on more 98+ days than anything, and most of those will be 100+ in August), Humid (ALL year long).. basically hot and sticky. We're behind on rain fall, so far this year, but we'll probably make it up towards the end of the year. Of course, that won't help us over the summer. heh.

Alvin's a decent area, but I'd highly suggest moving in closer to houston, or laterally/just north to Pearland/Friendswood. From Alvin, it's a ***** to get into Houston with any rapidity. Alvin's still pretty rural. Closer in would be much better. If you want to stay on the south side, go SouthEast, near Clear Lake. Clear Creek ISD is good, if you've got kids.

Alvin is a nice rural community and it is starting to grow some. It is difficult to get to Houston for work though. Of course, if you are not working in Houston, it may not matter. You may be able to find work in Clear Lake, it depends on the type of work you do. Pearland and Friendswood are really nice and would offer an easier commute to Houston if you are working in Houston. Friendswood schools are great. The League City and Clear Lake area are also nice. Stay away from the Dickinson ISD, though. They are not the best schools.

As for weather, it will not be much different in Alvin thatn it is in the rest of the Houston vicinity.

Default Alvin update?

'Just wondering how this turned out for the OP... I'm sure things have changed.

Okay, I was really just seeing if I could resurrect the oldest thread I could find.

Alvin is the boonies of Houston, you'll be a distance from work and social activities. It would be best to live in close proximity to Houston like Sugar Land, Clear Lake, Katy or even Missouri City. Those areas are relatively close to Houston and you'll probably be able to do more with your job.

Alvin is okay, but the cities of Simon and Theodore have a lot more to offer

For those who are moving to Alvin in 2018 or later, try to join 'Talk of Alvin' on Facebook, follow it for a week, and then make your decision
