Believe it or not, yes! But it depends, if you are a member of the synagog, there is no charge. If you are not a member, you get charged. And get this, it's not 5, 10, or 15 dollars, it is more like $300.00 - $400.00!

I am not Jewish, but I asked my friend here at work who is, and he said there are about 40 synagogs in Houston, but if you are not a member, you will get charged. To pay the salary of the rabbi, and the entertainment.

No offense, because I don't really understand Judaism, but why do you bother to attend services just this one day out of the year? If you don't go the rest of the year, what's one more day?

I am Catholic and I feel the same way about the slackers who show up only at Christmas and Easter to crowd up my pew space with their lazy back-sides that haven't been to church in 12 months. Why bother coming now? Stay home or come all the time. Pick.

"Your" pew? Wow. It's a House of God, shouldn't it be His pew?

It took me several years to get back to church and I am finally back regularly. I am not a "slacker". I am someone who had a deep mistrust of the church based on past experience, and really had to work it out in my mind before I felt comfortable enough to even think about joining, let alone going every Sunday.

Make people feel welcome and embrace them when they visit. They might find their way back more often...you never know.

Please do let us know where you ended up for your services.
Kind of curious as to why you get on this board and post what you did.
I would think your friends would be able to guide you.
By the way, which part of Houston do you live in?
