Thinking of getting a landscaper for our yards. Never dealt with them before, so wanted to get an idea of how much they generally charge? also, any recommendations for landscapers in the sugarland/richmond area?

A lot depends on your yard size, but most of the people I know pay between $20-25 for mowing every two weeks, plus extra for occasional tree trimming or other landscaping tasks.

I'll be watching this thread though because I am in need of a new landscaper as well since I'm moving to your 'hood. :-)

It depends on what you want them to do. Are you talking just a little trimming of a few bushes or something more elaborate?

Get multiple bids and compare. Have the materials cost (plants, dirt, etc.) separated from the labor costs so that you can see what you're paying for. Tell them you want the receipts for the materials; otherwise they may be inflating the materials cost to make additional profit.

Ask how long the job will take and how many people; divide those man hours into the labor cost to get the $ per hour you are paying. That will give you a better sense of value. You don't want to pay lawyers rates for a landscaper.

I pay my lawn guy $30 to cut front and back. He charges me about $40 for fertilizing the lawn and $10-15 for trimming bushes and weeding etc. I have about 0.3 of an acre (a little over 13,000 sqft).

We pay $40 every 2 weeks just to mow, edge and bag. We have a small yard but our guys are dependable and work very hard.

Do you want a yardman or a landscaper?

Someone to mow or someone to design the plantings and plant?
