Hi to my future neighbors!!! (I hope) Just wondering if anyone has an opinion or information about National Oilwell Varco? I've applied for a position with them as an industrial tech. I'm wondering about the stability of the company during the current state of the economy. From what I've read online they seem to be pretty secure. I'm also looking for personal opinions of the company from anyone that works for them or has worked for them or knows someone that has worked for them. Thanks in advance!

I have their stock. It gives me alot of stress, but it is exciting. Their stock fluctuates quite bit nowdays. I think the company will be stable for a while. Rig demand is up. I don't see their stock going back to the high of $90/share for several years though, if ever. As far as employment opportunities, i would think the prospects are good. The company will do ok.

They are the Walmart of the exploration industry... one-stop shop providing all types of services and equipment for drilling. As the other guy mentioned, I think its seen its glory days when oil was near $150. Should be an okay company assuming it didn't go on a hiring binge when things were booming. If so, they might be suceptible to layoffs since things have definitely slowed down.

I don't know anything about the company but your username made me chuckle.

Still lots of wells to be drilled even at current prices so you should be fine. Its a large and stable company.

They are a great company with a long history in Houston. While they have not always held the name National Oilwell they have bought out other 1980's era comapny's and re vamped. solid I am sure!

Is it safe to say that in order to get a job there, you really have to know someone? I have never seen them post jobs on monster, dice, etc. They're located on San Felipe right?
