Speaking of cockamamie liberal schemes, how about that sweet little Republican dog and pony show that aimed to cram deregulation down our throats anywhere there was a buck to be made. Just think without that conservative scheme we might never have experienced the wonders of mortgage bundling and the creation of the Maddoff and Stanford Ponzi programs that have done so much for our economy.

What part of hedge fund and offshore bank don't you understand? Neither of these enterprises was subject to Federal regulation under Democratic administrations - the whole point is that they were for sophisticated investors who should have enough money to hire investment advisers and lawyers (such as yourself) to take care of their interests. What happened was that some of these lawyers and investment advisers failed to do sufficient due diligence. Unless Obama finds a way to take care of the wealthy Democratic Party donors who make up much of their clientele, taxpayers should not be on the hook for their losses. Deregulation isn't being crammed down our throats - deregulation simply consists of masses of individuals making independent decisions with their money, whereas regulation consists of unelected bureaucrats (typically lawyers) inserting obscure provisions into the law in order to benefit themselves once they move into the private sector.

Are you actually suggesting that conservatives shoulder all the blame for the mortgage crisis? *lol* Shyeah. Hello...Frank and Dodd ring a bell for ya?

Finger pointing is fun!

ABC News: The Global Warming Myth?

Scientists tell reporters that computer models should "be viewed with great skepticism." Well, why aren't they?

The fundamentalist doom mongers also ignore scientists who say the effects of global warming may be benign. Harvard astrophysicist Sallie Baliunas said added CO2 in the atmosphere may actually benefit the world because more CO2 helps plants grow. Warmer winters would give farmers a longer harvest season, and might end the droughts in the Sahara Desert.

Why don't we hear about this part of the global warming argument? "It's the money!" said Dr. Baliunas. "Twenty-five billion dollars in government funding has been spent since 1990 to research global warming. If scientists and researchers were coming out releasing reports that global warming has little to do with man, and most to do with just how the planet works, there wouldn't be as much money to study it."

Washington Times - Global-warming myth

On May Day, Noah Keenlyside of Germany's Leipzig Institute of Marine Science, published a paper in Nature forecasting no additional global warming "over the next decade."

Al Gore and his minions continue to chant that "the science is settled" on global warming, but the only thing settled is that there has not been any since 1998.

Extra - WSJ.com

More recently, a study in the journal Science by the social scientist Nancy Oreskes claimed that a search of the ISI Web of Knowledge Database for the years 1993 to 2003 under the key words "global climate change" produced 928 articles, all of whose abstracts supported what she referred to as the consensus view. A British social scientist, Benny Peiser, checked her procedure and found that only 913 of the 928 articles had abstracts at all, and that only 13 of the remaining 913 explicitly endorsed the so-called consensus view. Several actually opposed it.

Yeah, that might happen. Or it might not. Didn't someone in here just say that the science doesn't exist and we're basically making all this up anyway? In the end, even if the worst predictions came true, the world will not come to an end. However you just can't deny that a significant change in the climate and weather patterns of the globe would cause a major re-shuffling of the deck in terms of political power, food supply, water, and economic survival. Considering we're already the top dog in all these areas I fail to see the motivation to allow things to change against our favor.

Some places will get much better. Canada and Russia come to mind. Others - probably more - will get much, much worse. I happen to like florida ABOVE the ocean surface, but I guess Disney World would be a bit more interesting with a beach.

If you can find some way to put all that melting ice in Greenland and Antarctica somewhere other than the ocean, and redistrubute the water supply (rain) on a global basis, they heck I say let's turn up the heat. Problem is you can't, and rising sea levels and new deserts are definetely a bad, bad thing for everyone. Except Canada.

(I have no idea how this issue became a Republican vs. Democrat issue)

I might be totally going nuts here but I thought we were discussing tolls on I-10 originally. I don't know though, I'm completely lost.
