My parents are thinking about a move to to either the Woodlands or the Spring/Tomball area of N. Houston. They will be buying a ~$140,000 home. It needs to be in a great elementary school district. I am trying to help them come up a monthly budget.
1) Can anyone give me a breakdown of what the average monthly electricty/gas/water/sewer bills are like?
2) What are HOA dues like (I know Woodland is higher, but not the $$$).
3) What will the property tax be like, including all the assessment districts? They are senior citizens, so I think they qualify for some breaks.

Any info is much appreciated - please let me know which area you are in if you can post some data. Thanks!

I pay a $500+ HOA fee. Live in Spring, Conroe ISD. Not sure about the taxes yet. They haven't been determined, just got the house in July.

My water, sewer, and trash is $29 a month for me and my gf. We live in a 2500 sq ft house. Electric bill is about $80 a month and gas is between $20-$60 depending on the weather.

Is the $80/month electricity an average? How high does it get in August? Is your's a new home? Houston must have much lower rates than CA - I average $70/month and I don't even have A/C.

$500 is for the year, gets me a pool, a kids pool/playground, tennis and basketball courts, and a gate with an attendant to get into the community.

Ya its a new home $80 is average over the year if you were to budget it. My highest bill was in Aug or Sept and was $138. Check here for rates www.ChooseEnergy.com

and ya it gets very hot and very very very humid. Brand new house, unfortunately I am relocating to Maryland next month

There is a reason they refer to us as the "SUNBELT".
