My family will be moving to the Houston area in June. My husband is going to attend UTI and we need to find an affordable place to rent in a nice neighborhood. I have been looking online, but I dont know if these apartments are in good neighborhoods because I have never been to Houston. We are only going to be able to afford around $600 a month while he is in school and need at least a two bedroom. Any suggestions? Also, what cities are close to Universal Technical Institute? Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately I am not familar with the 1960/Hardy Tollway area hopefully someone in that area will post up. Hang in there with this being a holiday weekend there may not be to many people looking at the board.

Default Uti

I went to UTI. It is on the North side of Houston. Admissions has not helped you with searching apartments? A lot of the apartments around there have students in them, and I heard they can get really rowdy.

I went to the move2home website, but I really don't want to live around the rowdy students. My husband is 30 and I am 28, we have a 12 year old son so we are really out of the whole college party days! :-)

How did you like UTI?

Unfortunately, 600 will only get you a 1 bedroom apt in the ghetto. you'll be looking at lest 850/mo for a 2 bedroom in a semi-nice part of town.

p.s. - be careful around UTI, that whole area is FULL of violent crime.

p.p.s. - I'm serious, I lived there. They call that area "gunspoint" instead of greenspoint for a reason.

Sometimes the university offers housing to students w/families, ie. in the dorms as a dorm monitor (not sure of what they call them now). I know that some schools offer lodging on campus for the older students.....just a thought. Best to you.

Default My Son is attending UTI Houston in Feb 08

I have talked to many people who attended UTI Houston and stayed in the Apartments "recommended" by the school. Bad experiences there. One had his car stolen the second night he was there. The other had his car Stripped. My son is going down in February of 2008. Unfortunately, his area of study is only covered at the Houston campus. I want to make sure he gets a good place to stay with covered parking if possible. Am prepared to pay the extra $$. Any ideas from local folks or those who have already been through this would be greatly appreciated!

UTI seems to be near Bush Airport. I might take Beltway 8 a little west of 45 and look for apartments out there.

Unfortunately for $600 a month, you're not going to find much of anything in Houston that is nice and a decent place to raise your son - even in the suburbs that is going to be a difficult one.
