I've heard from plenty of people about how good (and expensive) Lifetime Fitness is, but what about this place? What's the approximate monthly cost and is it any more or less crowded than anywhere else?

Any other gym recommendations near Telfair besides these two?

Well, I just got offered $50 initiation and $30/mo "if I signed up right now." (This was after he tried to give me a lengthy sales pitch and I asked him to just cut to the chase - what did it cost and what did that buy.) I told the salesperson I never do anything "right now," and he said "well, then, we can't help you," and I left with him muttering rude things after me. Lovely person.

From what I've googled, you can beat that price if you are firm, but I don't know if I'd want to go there anyway - I don't like dealing with car-salesperson types even when I am buying an actual car.

Their corporate behavior is atrocious, apparently - I'd sure never give them a credit card or access to my bank account - cash or nothing, and who takes cash nowadays....? ;->

Unfortunately, it's the only gym on my path home from work. (Unless I am missing something, in which case I would love to be enlightened!)

It has the reputation of being an OK (not great) place to go if you don't want the family-oriented vibe at Lifetime. Although Lifetime has restrictions on children being in the cardio area, there are a lot of children running around much of the place. If you are going to work out during times that children are out of school and you don't want to be surrounded by children, LA Fitness may be the best choice. If you *do* have children and you want them to have stuff to do, Lifetime is the best.

Lifetime all the way, the sales people at LA are rude. Go take a tour of lifetime if you haven't yet. When I signed up Lifetime was cheaper than LA. Lifetime a alot of things that are included in their memberships that you have to pay extra for at LA. Also Lifetime has a real nice, outdoor pool with slides, and also Steam room and sauna.
