Hello, I've looked through a number of posts for apartments but still can't get any sort of census on what specific complexes people like. I've been recommended by a friend to look around Midtown as it's the place for young professionals. I am moving at the end of July. I was planning on staying in an extended stay hotel room for a week or two until I could find a place. I've read on this board apartment hunting services have worked out well for people so if you have any that are good please let me know.

Here's what I'm looking for:
- Close to the light rail. I'm working at MD Anderson for a year and I hear parking is brutal and the rail is the best way to get there. I'll have my car but would rather not have to sit in traffic and pay tons for parking.
- Somewhere relatively safe but still fun. I'm a 27 year old medical student, single, no kids, and don't know anyone in Texas so being somewhere moderately social is desired. I don't party much but definitely enjoy it when I find the time on weekends. I'm more into the bar/live music scene. Really not much of a club person at all.
- Price is flexible. I'm pretty spoiled living where I am right now in Irvine so I'm willing to pay a little more for a decent place with parking. It's only a temporary relocation for a year's assignment and I don't want to be miserable especially since I'm moving away from the mountains and the beach.
- I would prefer a 1 bedroom and not a studio.
- Parking close to my apartment is a plus. A lot of the things I like to do on weekends involve driving with gear (fishing, surfing, etc) and I don't want to be stuck walking in the dark all alone across the street in a dangerous neighborhood carrying tons of stuff.

Anyone have any thoughts about living in Midtown so far?

I used to live at Oakwood Apartments in Midtown. The people was nice, there's interesting restaurants around, a bar down the street, the YMCA is a couple of blocks away etc. There's a parking garage (never had any issues with parking). Unfortunately, had to move since my puppy was getting too big. I definitely miss living there. It was awesome!

Sounds like midtown or upper to eastern montrose would be your best bet. It all depends on your budget, though..

Look around Almeda and Reliant stadium... from those apts. you can walk to the light rail and not pull out your car to go to work.

It's not really the young urban scene... but there are alot of students so there definately is a younger population.

^I'd agree somewhat, but the apartments right along Almeda would be a long walk to the rail. Apartments south of the medical center (around Holly Hall, Fannin, OST) tend to have a worse perception than those to the north (Montrose/Midtown). It's cheaper, though. And traffic can be worse, depending on where exactly you're heading.

Another option is Museum District area, just north of the medical center around San Jacinto/Binz and so on.

I was just looking at the place online and on the map. Looks like a good location not directly adjacent to a noisy area, but close enough to places you mentioned. Plus it's a 13 minute walk to the metro station from Google Maps. Thanks for mentioning it!

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I really appreciate the help. It's a lot of work moving somewhere without any connections.
