I know, I know this subject has been talked about before. We moved to Cinco Ranch in January from Florida. Obviously I'm not terrified of alligators, but I was a little alarmed when I noticed the retention pond behind our house has a sign up warning of gators and snakes! My neighbors have dogs and say they've never had a problem. I'd love other people to weigh in on this as i take my 2 small children out most days to play in their little wading pool and I don't want to find any new "friends" swimming in there.

Thanks!

Well I've heard that alligators are generally not a threat to humans unless provoked. Crocodiles are the ones that eat people. Anyway, it's one of those things where "it's more scared of you than you are of it." Should it be aggressive, though, you're instructed not to take matters in your own hands. Instead, you need to call the alligator people. Whom ever that may be, lol. I would call the police and see what they could do. With that said, we should be able to live in peace amongst alligators without there being any problems, and I believe there's never been an attack in Houston.

They also make for some good eating.

Here's a link to the video of the Gator that got inside the Cinco Ranch WaterPark last year.

Unlike Florida, I'm pretty certain there's been no fatal attacks by alligator recorded in Texas.

I'm pretty sure there hasn't been one either. Plus, I've never seen an alligator in person in Texas (except for the zoo).
