Man this city is depressing.

Everyone knows huge apartment buildings breed crime and blight and ruin neighborhoods. Yet they do nothing about it. Anyone who dares suggest they be torn down is shouted off.

I really hate this city and it's leadership. I really do.

Do you feel strongly enough about this that you'd vote for a tax increase to help pay for the acquisition of these properties so they may be demolished?

Also, do you even live in the City of Houston limits?

These complexes are tax subsidized which is why developers build them. Be doubly wasteful to increase taxes to tear them down.

Callo don't you live in Westador? Isn't that outside the city limits in unincorporated Harris County?

You are generalizing way too much because there are plenty of large apartment complexes that are support young upwardly mobile people, well off families, and couples that in no way represent that sort of apartment you are referring to.

So what is your solution to put all these low income folks once you tear down where they live?

The solution for the ones who got gentrified out of the inner loop in the last decade has been to move out in Callo's general direction. Should Montgomery be on the lookout next?

Yes it is. But the city exerts so much influence here that for all intents and purposes it's part of Houston.

I guess my complaint isn't so much that the apartments get built, but that no one forces them to be well maintained. Building codes mean almost nothing here. So the only solution is to never build them at all. And they really are ridiculously overbuilt. There are a couple new buildings coming up around Westfield High, and still more right next to a brand new subdivision south of FM 1960.

I know I sound like a broken record, and I don't mean to annoy anyone. But's it's a cronic problem that isn't going away. And no one really wants to address it. I tried asking Peter Brown about it directly, and he just gave me typical politician BS.

Which places are you talking about? Bammel? Greenspoint? Alief? Sharpstown?

I would be concerned about Eldridge on the west side of town too. Huge apartment complex after huge apartment complex lining a long stretch of the road. All very nice looking now, but what happens down the road?

I believe Bammel is outside the city limits, so there's not much Houston could do about it.

But I know what you mean, and get annoyed with the whole PC overkill too.
Have you considered moving away from your area to somewhere better in the Houston metro? There are plenty of other nice areas to choose from. Then once you're in a new area, just keep updated on TDHCA to see if any new projects are applying for funding; if there are and you feel the project ill-conceived for the area or otherwise, you and others around you can protest it - something we are allowed to do as taxpayers.

That depends on the area. If you don't like the city then go elsewhere.
