Our CA home closed today!!! Whooo Hoooo!!! Thank God cuz virtually everything hinged on this event!! We leave Sept 1, but we have to finish packing, have our cars shipped, load the van, spend time with in state relatives, etc, etc ...all in just 5 weeks, and work as well....boredom is so not a danger to us.....

We are, after over 2 years, REALLY on our way !!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't you have tenants in your house here? Have they moved out? Glad you're finally gonna be an official Texan.

good luck Daisy, I know you have wanted this for quite awhile. Now, the fun part, making the last plans. We went through all this last year.

Congrats! I know that seems like a whirlwind, but you should try being relocated by a big corporation. Sold our house the week it hit the market, 2 weeks later we fly to Houston and had 5 days to buy a house and get it inspected, flew back and had 2 weeks to pack and say our goodbyes, then started the three day drive (with van full to the brim, 2 kids and a dog)! LOL

This time last summer I think we were somewhere in TN, driving driving driving.

Congrats to you Daisy, hang in there these last few weeks! We just got back from Houston and have found an apartment. Now for the packing, moving, etc. We should leaving California on August 28th. Time is just flying!

I think things are finally starting to sink in that this move is for real...to say I'm apprehensive is an understatement.

Congratulations, you will love it here. Maybe you'll get here just in time for a hurricane!

May I give you some advice? Don't drive central Texas at night.

Took months to get the smell of burning deer guts out of the engine compartment. (We moved out here from California in Nov. 2007.) Thankfully it was a small deer, and that I just grazed it, breaking just a headlamp. Had I hit it head on, and had it been a mature deer, I probably wouldn't be writing this.

And don't try to get here in 2 days. We had 6 kids, 2 cars and we used walkie-talkies, and rushing around, and it was insane. Take a few days, 3 at least. You'll be happier. From Orange County it was roughly 28 hours of actual driving.

I know how excited you must be, we went through similar. Move here with right frame of mind, and for the right reasons and you are going to love Houston.
