I am looking for a five or four star restaurant in the Galleria area, or in any close surrounding towns. I am planning a visit shortly and I want to experience fine dining out there. A place that has a variety of foods (light on the seafood side). A really upscale place that you need reservations for. Any insight will be appreciated

Given your parameters, although I'm not sure how many stars any of these places get, these qualify as fine dining (some better than others) in/near the Galleria:

In the Galleria area: Tony's, Capital Grille, Crapitto's, or Frank's Chop House.
Downtown: 17 or Chaviari
Museum District: La Colombe D'or

If I was in Houston for a day or two I know where I would eat, and it's outside of your request but well worth mentioning: Killen's Steak House in Pearland. The chef owner is Le Cordon Bleu trained and was on the short list once for executive chef at the White House. This place is nowhere near the Galleria, and it is in an old ice house (the Chef's family owned the business for years) in a semi-industrial area. But what's going on inside is one the best restaurants in the Houston area, and certainly the best steakhouse. I think you can easily place it on the list of best steakhouses in the country.

Elegant interior, service just a notch below excellent, fine wine list (only 200 to chose from but the selection was nicely done), and the food is done very, very well. Dry-aged, wet-aged and Kobi beef done as well as anyplace I've ever seen.

Must haves: Fried asparagus appetizer and Creme Brulee Bread Pudding for dessert (Food & Wine mag rated it as one of the top ten restaurant desserts in the country). And the creamed corn, don't forget that.

All are good suggestions...I don't know how fine the OP is looking for. Are you looking for $50 a plate or $100+?

I would also add Papas Steakhouse to the list. Mark's in the Montrose area would be my first choice.

Thanks everyone!

I am looking for about $50 a plate. I am not really a vegetable person, so a place that serves all veggies is a no go for me.

Also, I was hoping not to go a place where their are alot of families, more of a intimate setting

Then Tony's isn't for you, since even a tiny plate of veggies as a side for your is $10-12 (EVERYTHING is a la carte, so your entree is JUST your entree and nothing else). A three or four course dinner quickly adds up to $100 PP or more. Good food, but you're paying a heavy premium to be "seen" and be part of the "scene."

Cafe Annie is in that area, but I guess they changed their name to Bar Annie + RDG Grill Room.

Yet another vote for Mark's. It sounds like exactly what you're looking for and the food has never disappointed.
