My neighbor is the 10th grade principal at Seven Lakes and his wife told me today a kid was killed in a car accident right here in our neighborhood...she thought he said near Spring Green and Cinco Ranch Blvd, but I saw no evidence of it when I drove through there this afternoon. I'm searching for more news on it but found none so far. There are no traffic lights around the HS, all four-way stop intersections with 35 mph limits, I can't image how this could've happened other than him going crazy fast and maybe texting while driving? Apparently most of the school knew (because this happened so close to the school) long before the parents could be notified, but they know now. Katy ISD has sent in a crisis management team.

The kid was a member of the HS band, and they have a football game tonight. He said they were planning on still going and playing, just so they could all be together.

This is really so sad and shocking. I can't imagine what the parents are going through.

Thank you so much. So they had a half day today, that explains why he was driving in the middle of the day. Unbelievable, the driver had to be FLYING down Cinco Ranch to cause a rollover from hitting a curb.

So sad. The driver may have made a mistake, and now he has to live with this outcome for the rest of his life.

Yeah, kinda sounds like a freak thing, since he was wearing his seatbelt and all the other passengers were uninjured. That poor kid driving...he is gonna be messed up.

Poor Matthew, just beginning life. And those poor boys who crashed into him, what a sad journey they have ahead.

Peace to all of the parents involved...I just can't imagine.

What a tragedy for those children and all the families involved.

I honestly think 15 yrs old is very young to be carting around passengers let alone a carload of teens. I thought at that age in TX, you were only allowed 1 passenger under minor age?

Regardless, what a terrible way to learn a very hard lesson for that driver and a reminder to parents to be vigilant about knowing the laws and realizing what a powerful weapon an automobile is, particularly in inexperienced hands.

RIP Matthew Schmitt.

The driver is actually a 16, almost 17, year old Junior. The media has incorrect information.

At 15 I though you could only have a permanent? I couldn't get my driver license until I was 17.
