I understand this is a pretty divisive issue. What irks me is when a study comes out such as the one done by Rice which pointed out that accidents actually increase at some intersections where these cameras exist, suddenly the issue seems more about the money and less about safety. I am all about safety, however I am not for using safety as an excuse to collect revenue. If it can even be remotely argued that this is what the cameras are about, they should all be removed immediately.

Does anyone know what logic these things use in a right on red situation? I've a friend who just got a ticket at one. She was turning right on red and thinks she did everything right, turned from right lane, stopped first short of the stop bar, yielded, etc, but got photoed and ticketed anyway. The two still photos don't prove/disprove anything. One is of her car short of the stop bar, the next is of her part way around the right hand turn. The difference in the time stamp between the two is between 3 and 4 seconds - enough to have made it half way around the turn from a complete stop.

She was probably innocent to be honest. I've noticed this city will give you tickets for the smallest thing.

I never notice camera's. We are just really careful about intersections and never running a red light.

and if there are rear ending accidents, then the person who caused it was following too closely at an unsafe speed....... i am also sick to death of people thinking that waiting 45 seconds to a minute or 2 is too much time out of their lives...... the yellow light is to alert you that your light is about to turn red .... that should be your cue to STOP for the red light..... not try to race through and hold up the people traveling the other way through the intersection (at minimum) or cause an accident because your time is oh so much more important than anyone else's........

The yellow light means to stop if it is safe to do so. If your going 50 mph and the light turns yellow and your 30 feet from the intersection and stand on your brakes and try to stop that is more dangerous than continuing through the intersection. Also it is a good idea to look for cars that may be running the redlight before you get into the intersection.

When you right turn and you can't see traffic coming from the left then you have to double stop. Stop before the line, move and stop again where you can see left traffic. Should they ticket you for the second stop in thinking that you didn't stop before the line, you can refer to the video and contest it. The ticket should have a login to the website where you can watch a few seconds of the video.

at 50 mph, 30 feet from the intersection when the light turns yellow, you will be through the intersection LONG before the yellow turns to red......

at 50 mph, 100 feet from the intersection the light turning yellow is your cue to prepare to stop for the red light that is following.... not floor it so you don't get stuck waiting for a minute or 2 until you have a green light again.......
