I was on my way home from the post office and saw a sign out front that read "Now Open". I'm really excited! I can't wait for date night with hubby. I'll have to take some more photos of City Centre's progress. I wonder if they've lost any prospective tenants due to the economy? Surely so...?

Fleming's opens soon as well. They're hiring right now, they have signs all over the front.

Why is this a boondoggle?

Yea this CityCentre is actually located pretty well. This thing isn't some glorified shopping mall, as there is already a pretty nice shopping mall that is located next to it and is now connected to City Centre. Not to promote this development too much, even though I am pretty excited about it, it has a large residential and hotel component. As well as food, retail, and apparantely a movie theater.

This is on the site of the original Town and Country mall that was there for 20 years. It will have Brownstones that start at $800,000 and great upscale dining and shopping. Also, it really isnt suburban. It is in Houston city limits.

This really doesn't mean anything in this town. Most of Houston city limits is not 'urban' in any sense of the word, and parts of it stretch outside the beltway.

And the Memorial area looks/feels pretty suburban to me. (Not that it's a bad thing.)

Otherwise I wouldn't even give this EE student a response. Clearly nothing is right around here.

I wish there was something like this inside the loop. Angelika used to sort of do this, but I would love a different option to dinner and then rushing to a movie

I walked, where I could, the other day around CityCentre, and I find it's really nice. It's certainly different than the TownCenterMarketFakeVillage things. It definately has a more a more urban feel, but maybe that was all the construction.
Unfortunately, in with the good they are sticking the same old Jamba Juice,Flemings and Brio crap in. McCormmicks is small chain, but I really like their oysters and tinis..so it's good for me.

I'd love to see them stick in a pocket library and move the Post Office onto its grounds, a small organic grocer, home spun bakery and maybe a Berings. But they'll probably go all chain again.

Oh, a Berings! Wouldn't that be nice. I'd love that. I'd be thrilled if they opened a Paulie's there so I could get my cookies...
