an anti litter campaign.

Since the Don’t Mess with Texas campaign began in 1986, hundreds of tons of trash have been removed from Texas roadways. But with over 23 million people living in our state, there’s a lot more to do. Check out our many programs and activities, and learn how you can help. It’s what Real Texans do.

I think litterers should have to take a trip down the Houston Ship Channel on the San Houston, then they may be able to understand the cumulative effect of all that litter. After a good rain, that stuff builds up into huge rafts at the bends in the shore and in some of the docks. Pretty ugly. There is a boat, the Mighty Tidy, that works full time netting the stuff up and cleaning it out. Litter also blocks storm drains and exacerbates flooding problems and it is just plain ugly.

The best way to deal with these people when found would be to break their legs but obviously a sound thrashing isn't acceptable in these 'enlightened' times.

Failing that the city should make the dirt do 100 hours forced participation on public clean up squads while wearing 'Convicted sex offender' tabards.

People from other states don't know this...they think it's just more Texas hubris. I remember the first couple of weeks I came to school here, it came up in conversation and I told people it was an anti litter campaign and they were like

I had no idea. When I saw that commercial of Mike Scott throwing trash into a barrel and setting it on fire back in the 80s, I thought it was for Astros season tickets.

When I told my lady friend that I was looking at moving to Houston, she was horrified.

"It's so dirty!"

....and we live in the Rust Belt....

Did you ask your lady friend how much time she has spent in Houston? If she's even ever been at all?

Sometimes I honestly think people mix up Channelview, Baytown etc. with Houston.

I see more people throw trash out of their car in this city than I have anywhere I've been.
