I just moved to Katy from Florida. I have started to form my own opinion about the area. Out of curiosity, what is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word "Katy". I mean what imagine, stereotype, or social class comes to mind?

If you mean the Cinco Ranch area of Katy, I think, "Happy suburban family." But that's mostly because of sbhubbell...

Oooh! Like word association? I love it!

Pigs

Other than that, suburbs... old town... far out... rice... that new pub they're talking about over on HAIF... needs more trees.

A stereotype?

Soccer moms driving big SUVS, (still sporting their McCain/Palin stickers, with Rush or Hannity on the radio), on their way to a sale at Hobby Lobby.

Well, you asked!

When you say "Katy", I'm assuming not the old town actual "Katy", but the "Katy" area which is bordered by Katy-Gaston Rd and west of Fry Road and south of I-10 and north of Westpark Tollway.

image: fake lakes with spouting fountains, rows and rows of huge homes squeezed onto small lots with at least one SUV in the driveway.
stereotype: families with the requisite 2.2 kids; keeping up with the Smiths, Lees and Patels since the Jones's didn't like the diversity and moved to the Woodlands.
social class: working middle to upper middle class. Definitely no blue bloods or old family money in the burbs.

So what are your thoughts a_fl_vol?

Ohhhhh yea I forgot about that. I guess its been out of the news for awhile. Those homeowners were there forever and now that cult just buys up land where THEY KNEW pig farms have been since way before Katy was even there. And now they want the pig farmers and the popular pig races to stop and get the hell out so they can build their scary building.

Its really nothing different then a builder buying some land to build homes but there is a porno store next to it that been there for 50 years and the builder wants tries to chase the porno store away. Hey mr porno was there first right? Why should he leave?

The thing that that makes this different is the homeowners there are rubbing it in thier faces. Those people cant go near pigs because they are considered dirty. So are dogs to them. So the pig farmers hold pig races just like a Horse race and the local residents show up in large numbers to support it. I heard it is quite the party. I never been there.

Oh there is so much more to this story that is so funny that we just can not talk about.

Other then that when I hear Katy I think of everything being named Kelli. Seems like the whole place is Kelli this and Kelli that. Stupid Builder sure liked his daughters name.
