Hi there,

I just moved to the Houston area two months ago, and I'm looking for spoken word events, African dance classes, vegetarian restaurants, street fairs, art galleries, etc.

I don't know where to begin to look.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

There's a restaurant in Montrose called Baba Yega that has a pretty decent vegetarian portion of their menu (IMO).

As far as spoken word - my co-worker is a poet. In Houston he regularly performs at Red Cat Jazz bar and Shadow Bar. I've gone to see him perform at Gs and Zs coffee house and at Barnes&Nobles. There are also regular poetry readings at The Arts Alliance in Clear Lake. I'm not big into poetry. I just like my co-workers.

The International Festival is a huge festival in April. This year it is all about the Caribbean. There's a lot of festivals around that time.
